Padel in Manchester: 38 clubs and 145 courts
Manchester has rapidly become Britain's leading padel metropolis outside London. As of mid-2026, Greater Manchester counts 38 padel clubs and 145 courts – more than almost any other British city. Three destination venues set standards that rival the capital's best facilities. Anyone looking to book a court finds a dense landscape of indoor halls, covered courts and premium locations.
When Pure Padel opened on Dutton Street in September 2024, it was the first fully indoor padel club in England's North West. Eighteen months later, that milestone already feels historic: the scene is growing so fast that records barely hold. Manchester and Birmingham are widely seen as the two cities driving expansion outside London. This guide is for players actively planning a game – with practical pricing data, booking tips and an overview of the key venues.
National growth, local momentum
The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) confirmed in early 2026 that Britain now has over 860,000 padel players and more than 1,500 courts across 559 venues. Participation doubled within a single calendar year. Britain went from around 15,000 players in 2019 to over 860,000 by early 2026 – a rise of more than 2,500 percent according to LTA data published in March 2026. The 1,000-court milestone was reached in July 2025, a full year ahead of the original LTA target.
In Manchester, this boom shows in concrete numbers: hourly rates range from £15 to £60 depending on venue and time slot. The average sits at around £36 per hour – comparable to London but with considerably better parking. Industrial buildings with large floorplates and high ceilings have made the city uniquely suited to indoor clubs with ten or more courts under one roof. The shift from isolated outdoor courts to large-scale indoor venues has changed how and by whom the sport is played.
The three top venues
Carbon Padel – West Gorton
Carbon Padel on Vaughan Street is Britain's largest single-site indoor padel facility: twelve doubles and five singles courts, all fitted with Mondo turf – the same surface used on the Premier Padel circuit. The singles courts are virtually unique at this scale. The venue opened in 2024 in a repurposed industrial building in West Gorton, minutes' drive from the city centre. Sound-insulating curtains between courts mean neighbouring games barely disturb play. General Manager Ben Molyneux has publicly highlighted the partnership with MCRActive, giving local groups subsidised access several times a week. University socials, over-50s sessions and the Manchester Fire Service league all happen here regularly.
Pricing: off-peak weekday slots before 4pm from £20–£36 per hour; peak slots on evenings and weekends up to £48. The Carbon Platinum membership costs £200 per year and offers 14-day advance booking plus 30 percent off-peak discounts – it pays for itself quickly if you play twice a week. Court 5 is the only court with a ball machine – bookable on Playtomic under "INC. BALL MACHINE". Best for players seeking the North's finest surface, singles-court experience or group sessions.
The Padel Club TraffordCity – Stretford
The Padel Club opened its most ambitious site in TraffordCity in early 2025: eleven courts, nine covered and two outdoor, embedded in one of Manchester's most accessible leisure destinations at 15 Trafford Way in Stretford. Covered courts cost £34 off-peak and £44 peak; outdoor £30 and £40 respectively. The Society membership at £200 per year secures 18-day advance booking, flexible cancellation and exclusive events. The clubhouse offers a coffee bar, restaurant, shop, EV charging points and dog-friendly access – a place where you can bring guests to watch a warm-up before a lesson.
Pure Padel – Cheetham Hill
Pure Padel was the city's first fully indoor padel club and has evolved from pioneer to established venue. Six panoramic courts under a 9.5-metre roof inside a warehouse originally built in 1947, with a mezzanine viewing platform over the show court and a bistro downstairs that stands well above typical sports club catering. The location ten minutes' walk from Manchester Victoria makes it attractive for commuters and after-work players. Courts run from £36 to £60 per hour; off-peak from around £16.50 per player for 90 minutes. Racket hire is available on-site; everything books through Playtomic with no membership required.
More options and booking
Beyond the three flagship venues, Club de Padel is reopening in larger premises with indoor and outdoor courts, while The Northern on Palatine Road in Didsbury offers two covered courts from £4.50 per person per hour – one of the cheapest covered all-weather rates in the country. David Lloyd clubs across Greater Manchester include padel on the platinum tier; Barnton Cricket Club Padel from £15 per hour as the lowest rate in the region according to Playskan data.
All major venues book via Playtomic. Walking in during peak hours without a reservation is risky – install the app before you arrive. Off-peak weekday mornings and early afternoons are consistently available; the price gap to peak slots is typically £10–£14 per hour. Racket hire is available at 37 of Manchester's 38 clubs according to aggregated data. For live comparisons across all 38 venues, Playskan aggregates Playtomic and MATCHi listings and saves time when you are flexible on location.
